  • Must be a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) major requiring calculus

  • Enrolled as a full-time student

  • Intend to transfer to a 4-year college​

  • ​Enrolled in Math 162​ (trig) or higher semester after apply to MESA

  • 2.4 or higher GPA

  • Plus one of the following:

  • Started college in Elementary Algebra or lower

  •  Neither parent earned a bachelor's degree or higher in any country 

​​Economically Disadvantage Criteria

(Students must meet one or more)

  • Eligible for EOPS

  • Receiving ​California Promise Grant (formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver)

  • Receiving Financial Aid​​

  • Work-Study Eligible

MESA Co​​​mpo​nents​

MESA components are structured to build an academically-based peer community to provide mutual student support and motivation. This community of learners is what sets MESA apart from other programs. ​

Multipurpose room where students study, workshops are conducted, and meetings take place.

students are scheduled in the same core math and science classes and are instructed how to develop and maintain high academics through group study.

introductory course highlighting academic and social adjustments to college as a MESA major.  Program goals and expectations are outlined with participating students.

field trips to universities, admissions applications workshops, financial aid, and academic advisement.

Introduction of career opportunities and information related to science majors (i.e., summer internships, lecture series).

Mentors, guest speakers, and industry opportunities are provided. Student organizations are highly encouraged as part of a MESA student's active participation and they include

1) SHPE/MAES Club and

2) Premedical Students Association.

workshops are offered to students each semester in order to increase awareness of careers in the sciences and improving study skills.

Relationship establishments between students and the industry leaders.  The board provides scholarships, strategic planning, summer internships, field trips and other students services resources.
