
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are on the front lines of patient care. They are
valuable members of the healthcare team. The CNA works with a nurse to help patients
with daily living, assist with medical equipment, and check vital signs. CNAs provide
important social and emotional support to the patient. They also relay vital information
on patient health to the nurse.
In this 13-week certification program, you will:
-Get equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to be a nurse assistant.
-Practice for the Certified Nursing Assistant Board Exam.
-Prepare to gain employment as a certified nursing assistant.
This program is approved by the California Department of Public Health. A certificate of completion is awarded to students who complete the course. The
graduates will also be prepared to sit for their State Certification Exam.
The CNA courses are free! However, you may still have fees for uniforms, supplies,
CPR certification, and your Health fees and Background test.
1. Attend Orientation (VHLTH 101 - Overview of the Nursing Assistant Certificate)
2. Submit a completed admission package
3. If selected, you can enroll in VHLTH 102 - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training.
4. Take the CNA state exam and pass.
- -Possess a State Issued ID or Driver's License
- -Possess a Social Security Card/ITIN Number
- -Pass a TB Test (Tuberculosis) or Clear Chest X-Ray
- -Pass a Physical Exam to confirm good health
- -Pass a Background Check (LiveScan Fingerprints)
- -Possess certification for BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals
- -Possess Immunity/Passed immunization forms (Varicella, Tdap, MMR, Hep B & Influenza).
COVID vaccine and boosters may be required depending on the clinical facility.
- -Attend a mandatory information orientation, VHLTH 101
Students must pass the following FOUR courses:
VHLTH 101 - Overview of the Nursing Assistant Training Program
VHLTH 102 - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training - Theory
VHLTH 103 - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training - Skills Lab
VHLTH 104 - Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training - Clinical
Students must pass ONE of the following courses for the state certificate:
VBUS 402 - WorkForce Power Skills
ESL 520 - English for Work 2
Take a free English for work in healthcare class. You will learn workplace communication,
vocabulary, job safety, culture/issues, career pathways, and more! The course will
improve your speaking skills and prepare you for the CNA program.
