Mathematics Course Sequence

If you are a student who plans on transferring to a four-year institution, please work with a counselor and refer to the catalog from the school of transfer, or refer to assist.org, to select the most appropriate mathematics course.

Pathways

BSTEM Pathway

The BSTEM pathway is designated for students planning to major in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics. The flowchart below gives a summary of the mathematics sequence of courses for Business and STEM majors (BSTEM).

Transfer Level Math Courses for BSTEM Majors
  • Math 140: College Algebra OR Math 140S: College Algebra with Support**

    • Math 150: Business Calculus OR

    • Math 162: Trigonometry

      • Math 180: Calculus 1

      • Math 185: Calculus 2

      • Math 280: Intermedia Calculus

      • Math 287: Introduction to LInear Algebra & Differential Equations

SLAM Pathway

The SLAM pathway is for majors that require students to take Statistics, Liberal Arts Math, or those who plan on teaching elementary school. The options below give a summary of the mathematics courses available for students in the SLAM Pathway.

Transfer Level Math Courses for SLAM Majors
  • Math 219/219H: Statistics & Probability OR Math 219S: Statistics & Probability with Support**

  • Math 105: Mathematics for Liberal Arts Students

  • Math 204: Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers OR Math 204 + Math 204L: Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers with Support**

Students interested in behavioral sciences can also take PSYC 210: Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. Consult with a counselor to ensure that it transfers to your transfer university.

*SAC also offers optional free non-credit refresher courses in pre-algebra (LRN 164) and basic math (HSMTH 158) that you can join anytime. Contact a counselor for more information.

**Support courses give extra class time with your Math instructor where you can strengthen the prerequisite skills and concepts needed to successfully complete College Algebra or Statistics. 

If you have already taken Pre-calculus or Calculus, you should contact a counselor for placement in the proper mathematics course.
