Medical Assistant Program
The associate degree and certificate curricula for medical assistant administrative/clinical are designed to prepare a student for employment in a medical office, a hospital business office, a clinic, or allied health facility. Careers are available as medical assistants, front and back office; insurance secretaries, admitting clerks, medical records clerks and receptionists in all medical facilities.
Course content includes medical terminology, medical data entry, computer skills, medical documents, electronic health records, reports/charts, medical insurance/coding, billing/collections, bookkeeping, effective human relations relating to medical offices, clinical procedures (giving injections, sterilizing instruments, measuring vital signs, asssisting with minor surgery, instrument identification), laboratory procedures, and professional ethics/legal aspects.

Medical Assistants perform routine tasks and procedures such as measuring patients’ vital signs, administering medications and injections, recording information in medical records-keeping systems, preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies, and collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing. Medical Assistants find employment in ambulatory care centers, urgent care facilities, clinics, private & public hospitals as well as inpatient and outpatient facilities.
