The NASBITE CGBP provides a benchmark for competency in global commerce. The CGBP designation demonstrates
an individual's ability to conduct global business including
- Global Business Management
- Global Marketing
- Supply Chain Management
-
Trade Finance.
For candidates experienced in international trade, the certification confirms that
knowledge. For candidates just beginning, it establishes a professional development
goal to ensure a full understanding of the profession. For companies, it assures that
employees are able to practice global business at the professional level required
in today's competitive environment.
The role of NASBITE is to facilitate and coordinate the certification process, not to provide training
for the certification exam. Instead, academic, private, non-profit, and NGOs involved
in international trade education and training will provide these services. This pioneering
initiative will benefit both the primary stakeholders (exam takers) and the supporting
stakeholders (trainers and employers) by:
-
Recognizing international trade practitioners who demonstrate competence
-
Advancing the viability of the international trade professional
-
Raising the level of practice by encouraging professional growth in the field of international
trade
-
Providing a means for employers to select competent trade specialists
-
Guiding and strengthening the academic international trade curriculum
How to Become a Certified Global Business Professional
The NASBITE CGBP credential is awarded to candidates that have:
- Passed the NASBITE CGBP Exam - and -
- Completed a minimum of two-years of college-level classes – OR – Have worked in international
trade for a minimum of two years.
Besides passing the NASBITE CGBP Exam, candidates must also qualify through either
college-level studies or work experience. For college-level studies, the candidate
must complete and earn credit for two years of college-level courses. These may be
in any field. A degree does not have to have been earned. Candidates that have received
any two, four, or post graduate degree would automatically qualify for the CGBP designation
assuming they have passed the exam.
For candidates that have not received a degree, they must indicate on their application
where they have studied and how many hours (credits) of college credit has been received.
For most colleges and universities using the credit-hour system, this would mean at
least 32 hours of classes must have been successfully completed.
Alternatively, candidates may elect to receive the credential by passing the exam
and evidencing two years of work experience in the field of international trade.
This work experience must be directly related to international trade in any of the
four domains. Relevant work experience would include international sales, international
freight forwarding, international banking, or international customer support.
